Proposed Transitway
The Bi-County Transitway is a new light rail rapid transit link along a 14-mile corridor between Bethesda in Montgomery County and New Carrollton in Prince Georges County.

The project would provide direct connections between the two branches of the Metro Red Line, the Green Line at College Park and the Orange Line in New Carrollton. The project also will directly link to the University of Maryland Campus. It also will connect with the MARC commuter rail stations at Silver Spring (Brunswick Line), College Park (Camden Line) and New Carrollton (Penn Line).

Although the exact alignment is still under discussion at may approval and funding levels, the Bi-County Transitway could have stations at existing development centers. Stations at College Park and the University’s campus would support revitalization and help facilitate future growth and development.

Under the current schedule, the MTA anticipates that construction could begin in 2010, if the required funding is available. Construction could take approximately 3 to 5 years to complete.
