Market and Economic Analysis

In spring 2005, the University of Maryland College Park (UM) retained Anderson Strickler, LLC (ASL) to conduct a student housing market and feasibility study to gauge unmet demand for undergraduate housing, to find out if UM was offering undergraduates desirable unit types, and to explore the demand for graduate housing.

The University commissioned a market analysis to study the real estate, retail, and demographics associated with the East Campus Redevelopment site. Economic Research Associates (ERA) provided its data and recommendations on September 26, 2006.

Under the direction of ERA, Hollander, Cohen & McBride (HCM) conducted a survey of the wider UM community to gather opinions about the current retail and residential situation and the opportunities afforded by the East Campus site.

In 2007, Robert Charles Lesser & Co (RCLCO) was hired to analyze the demand for graduate, faculty and staff, and general market housing at East Campus.

Traffic and Parking Studies

The Traffic Group conducted traffic studies in 2008 for the initial proposed East Campus project. The first measured the impact of the proposed development on nearby intersections. The second determined the need for new traffic signals.

In 2009, Walker Parking Consultants was hired to project parking demand for the proposed East Campus project, taking into account the significant opportunities for shared parking.
